Helping African-Canadians in Alberta

Who are we?

Mental health, chronic disease prevention, social reintegration and elder health

Immigrants of African and Afro-Caribbean origin risk suffering from cardiovascular and metabolic diseases much more than the rest of the Canadian population. Several studies have shown that their state of health deteriorates more alarmingly with the length of their stay in Canada.
The Center for Wellness and Prevention for African Canadians in Alberta (the CBEP) is a non-profit organization that targets prevention and awareness dedicated to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, mental illness and rehabilitation. through a community approach that takes into account the cultural sensitivities of each group of African-Canadian communities in Alberta and various partnerships.

The Prevention Center wants to be a key organization that wants to educate members of immigrant communities on these health issues and set up programs for health education, health promotion, prevention and early detection of chronic diseases.

About Us

Helping Afro-Canadians. Empowering communities

The Center for Well-being and Prevention for African-Canadians was created in Edmonton on November 4, 2015 as a non-profit organization in response to a lack of culturally appropriate services for African-Canadian population in Alberta.

In July 2017, the organization’s Constitution and Bylaws were revised to provide governance at the forefront of the needs of African Canadians in Alberta and good community governance legislation, and its acronym was changed from CBEPACA to CBEP.
